These Beer-Battered Onion Rings take sweet onions and turn them into a crispy, golden-brown appetizer packed with flavor. Each onion ring gets lightly coated in seasoned flour, dipped into a cold beer batter, and fried until perfectly crunchy.
The secret is the combination of cold beer and Kosmos Q Spicy Killer Bee Chipotle, which brings a delicious balance of sweetness, smoky heat, and a little kick to every bite. Finished with another shake of seasoning while they're still hot, these onion rings are hard to resist.
They're easy to make, perfect for cookouts, game day, or backyard gatherings, and even better when served with ranch or spicy mayo for dipping. Let's get to it!
2 large sweet onions
1½ cups all-purpose flour, divided
½ cup cornstarch
1 tsp baking powder
2–3 Tbsp Kosmos Q Spicy Killer Bee Chipotle, divided
1 tsp Kosmos Q SPG
1½ cups cold beer
Oil, for frying
Kosmos Q Spicy Killer Bee Chipotle, for finishing
Ranch or spicy mayo, for dipping (optional)
Start by peeling the two large sweet onions.
Slice each onion into approximately ½-inch thick rounds, then carefully separate the layers into individual rings.
Set the onion rings aside while you prepare the flour coating and beer batter.
In a shallow bowl, combine ½ cup of all-purpose flour with 1 tablespoon of Kosmos Q Spicy Killer Bee Chipotle.
Toss the onion rings in the seasoned flour mixture, making sure they're lightly coated on all sides. This first coating helps the beer batter stick to the onions.
In a separate mixing bowl, combine the remaining 1 cup of all-purpose flour, ½ cup of cornstarch, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, 1 teaspoon of Kosmos Q SPG, and 1 tablespoon of Kosmos Q Spicy Killer Bee Chipotle.
Slowly pour in 1½ cups of cold beer while whisking until everything is combined into a smooth batter.
You want the batter thick enough to coat the onion rings without being overly heavy.
Don't overmix it. A few small lumps are perfectly fine, and keeping the beer cold helps give you that light, crispy coating once the onion rings hit the hot oil.
Pour enough frying oil into a heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer to fully submerge the onion rings.
Heat the oil to 350°F.
Once the oil reaches temperature, you're ready to start frying.
Keep an eye on the oil temperature throughout the cook. Adding too many onion rings at once can drop the temperature and prevent them from getting properly crispy.
Working in batches, take each flour-coated onion ring and dip it into the beer batter.
Make sure each ring is evenly coated, then allow any excess batter to drip back into the bowl.
Carefully lower the battered onion rings into the hot oil.
Fry for approximately 2–3 minutes, flipping as needed, until the coating turns golden brown and crispy.
Avoid overcrowding the pot so the onion rings have enough room to fry evenly.
Once they're ready, carefully remove them from the oil and transfer them to a wire rack to drain.
Continue working in batches until all the onion rings are fried.
While the onion rings are still hot, give them another generous shake of Kosmos Q Spicy Killer Bee Chipotle.
That final layer of seasoning adds another hit of sweet heat and chipotle flavor while the crispy coating is fresh out of the fryer.
Arrange the beer-battered onion rings on a serving platter while they're still hot and crispy.
Serve them with ranch or spicy mayo for dipping.
They're great on their own, alongside burgers and sandwiches, or as part of a loaded backyard spread.
Golden, crunchy onion rings with sweet onion centers, a light beer batter, and just the right amount of smoky chipotle heat.
The cold beer gives you that crispy coating, while Kosmos Q Spicy Killer Bee Chipotle brings the flavor that takes these onion rings beyond your average fried appetizer.
